Okay, we're not gardeners. In fact, if I don't have to work in the yard at all, all the better. As I've mentioned in the past, we have a crap yard. It's all weeds, which we've been slowly trying to manage. We've hauled away so many bags of them, we've lost count.
Colin has ideas of gardening. He'd really like to grow stuff. Vegetables and herbs mainly. We have a large planter that he grows herbs in. It stays weed-free. He's also cleared some larger sections of our yard and he has mint in one area and, because his wife loves tomatoes, he decided to give growing tomatoes a try. He cleared a section and lovingly planted 6 little tomato seedlings.
We don't have a composter (which would be nice), but Colin will sometimes bury our vegetable and fruit scraps in and around the soil where he's growing stuff.
The past few days, he's noticed a particular leaf growing all around the tomatoes. Not a weed, and it's all the same. He said he'd buried some scraps there. I asked if any of those scraps had seeds. He didn't think so. Among the things he told me he buried, was pumpkin. And I knew.
He googled it and confirmed that we are indeed growing pumpkins all around our tomatoes. Our poor tomatoes. They're going to be overtaken!
It makes me giggle.
