More bed musings

(Don't read if you don't want to read "intimate" details of our bed life. :D Don't worry, still suitable for all ages.)

Due to the king-size bed arriving, I've been thinking about beds more than usual today. Is it strange to be emotionally attached to a mere mattress? It seems normal to be physically attached (or not) depending on the comfort of the bed itself. Our queen-size bed is currently sitting in our downstairs hallway that leads to the laundry room. That is our only indoor storage space. All our other storage has been moved outside to the shed.

I considered selling our queen bed. My main reason for holding onto it is that we might, just MIGHT, be in a 3 bedroom home again someday, and it will be nice to know we already have a bed for a 3rd bedroom. But then I think about my other reasons for keeping it. It is an extremely comfortable bed, and has served my back and neck well over the years. It is also only 7 years old. It has lots of life left in it.

But here come my emotional attachments. This was Colin's and my first bed together. We were newlyweds and wanted a new bed for the start of a new life. This was the bed that all 4 of our babies (including our lost ones) were conceived in. It's also the bed that our son entered the world in. And then we spent SO many hours and days in that bed with our newborn baby. It's a special place. Even when I look into the future and the bed is 20 or 30 years old and has NO life left in it, I think I'll be sad to get rid of it. "It's just a bed", I can hear many saying. But I'm an emotional thinker. Plus, I'm pregnant! Don't forget to add those wacky hormones to the mix. Hehe.

Anyway, we will not get rid of the bed. I will probably be irritated with it to no end, as I *really* have to squish past it in our downstairs hallway now, to get to my laundry room. But someday, when we are in a bigger place, our kids will likely sleep in it. Maybe sleepovers. It will continue to be a "special" bed. Maybe we'll wait for it to be in shreds before I can part with it. I can wait.

Keep the bed...I cried when we gave away our first kitchen table...and it didn't have nearly as much signifigant value...;but it was *ours* and it was special...*sniff*.

Yeah! King size beds what a great idea those are. You must feel like you have so much more room now. I tried talking Geoff into getting one before Esther was born but it never happened. I tend to err the other way getting rid of too much then I regret not having seen the sentimentalness until it's too late.
Happy sleeping!
