New Traditions

Tomorrow (in an hour and a bit) is my 11th anniversary.  Technically.  In the true sense of the word, I haven't been married in well over a year.  Or more.  Who knows how long he was truly disconnected?

Last year, on my 10th, which was supposed to be a happy milestone, it was very likely one of the worst days of my life, aside from "d-day", which, in infidelity circles, is the day you find out about your spouse's affair.  Nice, eh?

I decided, this year, I was never again going to spend the 14th of August, miserable.  Never.  Again.  A few months ago, I saw an advertisement for a very cool show, Walking With Dinosaurs, that just happened to be playing in Calgary on Aug. 14.  I knew my boys would be over the moon about a show like this, and I knew that from now on, that day had to be about something else.  I decided every 14th of August will be spent doing something extra fun and exciting.  Something we don't normally do.  It is going to be the tradition I now have with my children, the 3 most important people in my life.  They are here in my life because of the choice I made on Aug. 14, 1999.  I have never broken my vows.  I could not.  It isn't in me.  So, we will build new memories and experiences together, the 4 of us.  My family.

I will never forget that this day is/was my anniversary.  How could I?  But I hope and pray that my new memories will somehow take the sting out.  Soothe the wound.

And life-sized dinosaurs?!  Well, I can't think of too many other things that are more fun than that!  :)

Good for you, Krista! I just wanted to say that I'm sending up extra prayers for you today (and that's why I checked the blog). Hope you had fun with the dinosaurs!

Making a choice to make new memories with the three most important people in your life is an important way to celebrate this day. And dinosaurs are a great way to do it!

Know you are loved and God has a plan for you and your children. He is a father to the fatherless and a husband to the widow. And I believe that to be any woman without her husabnd -- God is with YOU.

Love you and praying for you.
