Daylight Savings have begun!!! A full extra glorious hour of daylight today! That truly feels like the beginning of summer to me. Our days still have a cool tinge to them but there are more and more coat-free days, and even a t-shirt day here and there. I am so happy to say farewell to winter and welcome the warmer, sunnier days with joy. Everything seems a little happier (and everyone, too!).
Colin is on holidays for two weeks, but we only have the second week to enjoy with him. Much to my chagrin, he decided to take some extra work for the catering company he works for occasionally. But it's 4 full days and nights, so he won't be home from Tuesday to Sunday. It will be worth the extra money in the end, which is always at the forefront, with our massive student loan debt. But still. I live for the holidays.
I was thinking about things this week, and realized that I am with my children a LOT! Don't get me wrong, I have chosen this and it's what I want. But in terms of "me" time and time for renewal and refreshing, I've gotten very little of that in the past 5, almost 6 years. By choosing to homeschool and not send Ethan to preschool, or traditional school, I have pretty much been with my children 24/7 for almost 6 years. That is a really long time. And I have a husband who doesn't work the traditional 8-5, Mon-Fri. schedule, making it that much more exhausting.
I'm not complaining. It's a very high priority (and was even before we had children) for me to be home. And the student loans must get paid, meaning Colin needs to work an extra job (or 3). And for the vast majority of the time, it all works very well. I'm happy. Colin's happy. It's the life we've chosen. But he gets tired. And I get tired being a single parent. And we miss him. And he misses us. And every once in a while, I get the yearning to drop my kids off somewhere (daycare/school/whatever) just so I can catch my breath. And maybe sleep. I also haven't an an unbroken night of sleep for almost 6 years. That's a whole lot of sleep deprivation, and it's not easy being the kind of parent I want to be when sleep deprived. I wonder sometimes what it must be like to parent when you've had 8 hours of solid sleep. I bet I'd be phenomenal! Hehe!! ;)
So anyway, none of that has anything to do with Daylight Savings. Wow, what a tangent. My little boys are also happy to be going into summer. I think my boys are happier in less clothing. I know Ethan is. That boy lives for shorts and t-shirts and barefeet.
And while it has nothing to do with the changing seasons, Silas is welcoming the warmer weather with at least 2 or 3 new words a day! Something just clicked and he's a little talking machine. It's awesome!
Lots of fun! Lots of busy! Lots of tired! That is our life.
