I know, I know, I just haven't been updating like I usually do. And some of you are reminding me that you like reading my blog, which, honestly, is really quite humbling. So, I'll try to do better. By the way, if I haven't written anything here, you may want to check my homeschooling blog. I guess as I get caught up in our day to day learning, I feel more of our "stuff" belongs over there.
But let's see. What is new in the Hedivan home? Colin has been working with the junior production at school. He hasn't directed it, but has been in charge of lights, so he's been there a lot over the past two weeks. They open tomorrow night, but only for two nights.
It's actually been really nice this year, with him not directing a major production. This is the first year in 5 that he has not directed a show. I will admit it's nice to not be a "drama widow" for one year at least. In a school with more than one drama teacher, I may get this every couple of years! Oh, and even Colin admits it's nice to have the break, though I know his directing juices are already flowing for next year. There are some challenges to work through with fellow colleagues, but hopefully, he can look forward to another fantastic production next year sometime.
As for me, the theatre has once again beckoned. The community theatre group here held auditions for the stage version of "Allo, Allo". I wasn't sure at first. I haven't been onstage in over 3 years. I feel very out of practise. Colin encouraged me to go. I think it's been pretty clear for several months that I NEED to do something just for ME. Everything else I do, is pretty much for these 3 amazing (yet tiring) boys in my life. So yeah, he's right. I needed to do it. As soon as I walked onto the stage, even just reading lines from a script, I felt it. The rush. The adrenalin. The thrill of being onstage. I was nervous (I mean, it WAS an audition), but left so energized. I HAD to get a part! And I did! Yay! I play Michelle, a member of the French Resistance. And need a french accent. I'm working on that. So far, I'm sounding mildly German. But no worries, I have a little under 3 months to perfect it. We perform at the end of November/beginning of December.
Most of Ethan's happenings are on our homeschooling blog. And Silas continues to be his joyful, boisterous little self. After months and months of his only word being "Aaaah??" always in the form of a question, he has discovered the beauty of words. He has a preference for ones that begin with B, but will venture to try other new ones when the mood strikes him. It's really fun to hear him really and truly "talking".
After nearly two weeks of hardly seeing Colin, we will make up for it somewhat this weekend. Friday night, he has booked off work at the restaurant and we'll head to our church for supper. The kids are in a program called Mainly Music and it's Father's night this week. In honour of Father's Day, which is this Sunday here in NZ, the kids will be able to show their dads what they do every Thursday morning. It's not often that Colin can step into their daily life like that.
And then, of course, Sunday is Father's Day (which, yes, is weird in September), so we will get some family time in, and maybe even a dinner out.
And, the best thing of all, it's officially SPRING!! And to celebrate, we've had two absolutely gorgeous sunny days, with highs between 16-19 degrees! Oh, how we've needed this refreshing change! Ethan was ready to wear shorts simply because it was now spring. It MUST be warm enough for shorts if the calendar says it's spring! Soon enough.
