The sounds of music...

Well, "music" is a relative term sometimes. ;) This is our newest purchase.

Yes, we bought a piano. It's old, and certainly not "flash", as our Kiwi friends would say. And it sounds horrendous. It needs tuning desperately, but for $100, it's a steal! And it's a piano! I have always wanted my own piano. Yes, my mom reads this blog and is probably rolling her eyes, thinking of the 3 years of piano lessons I took that never quite "stuck". But I loved our piano growing up. I was very sad when my parents sold it. It would have come in handy during my singing days at university when I needed a piano to help myself learn my songs or when composing music for my theory classes. I have often thought that I wanted my kids someday to play the piano if they wanted to. But, of course, they would need the resource, or they would never learn to play at all.

So, I saw the deal in the paper and went for it. And the people who sold it to us even delivered it. Pianos are not easy to move. Ethan and Silas are in love. And we don't get the typical child "banging" on the keys, as I expected. Maybe because we don't actually have a bench or stool for it yet. Hehe. One of the first things we now hear in the morning is the piano. Who needs alarm clocks?! And Ethan is really experimenting with it. It's amazing. He's not a prodigy or anything, but he will plunk out various notes and try different combinations of notes. He was playing the other day and at some points, it sounded downright melodic. AND, he was singing along, matching his pitch to the notes he played. Nice to know we've passed down some musical genes to our son. Afterwards, he came and told me that was a song he wrote, called, "Jesus Rises". Man, I just have no words. :D

Here's our little musician.
