The slacker returns

Blogging slacker, that is. There's been too much going on for me to slack in any other area of my life.

But I should probably update on the move! I'm happy to report we are now in our new little house, much warmer, and much "homier". The move went brilliantly. We had asked a few people from our church to help out, but unbeknownst to us, an e-mail had gone out to the *entire* church, asking anyone who could help with moving AND cleaning, to just show up. I did NOT expect the cleaning help. How incredibly humbling is it to have complete strangers (because we didn't know everyone who showed up) cleaning up your crud. And believe me, it doesn't take long for crud to build up behind furniture and appliances. Honestly, if we hadn't had that extra help with cleaning, I don't know what we would have done. It was a MUCH bigger job than I anticipated and I am happy to now live in small houses for the rest of my life. Big houses are highly overrated. LOL

We started on the morning of the 6th, around 8:45. We were DONE (as in everything moved and in the new house) by 11am. Unreal. It went so fast with all the help and we are so, so thankful for our church family. And then, that night, Colin still had to go work at the restaurant, and I was about to collapse with exhaustion. Seriously, near tears I was. And I was just wondering how on earth I was going to get the energy to get dinner ready for me and the boys, and another church friend showed up at my door with dinner! I think I actually did cry a little talking to her. We are so BLESSED!

The unpacking has been slow. The first week I did a little bit here and there, mostly working on the boys' bedroom and the kitchen. The second week was stalled by illness as both kids and myself got so sick, with what I think was just a bad cold, but who knows. It knocked me out pretty much for 3 days, and I'm still, over a week later, trying to gain my energy back. There is still a box or two in a couple rooms, but it will all happen eventually.

And we love it here. It is just right for us. It is warmer and easier to heat. I actually FEEL the temperature difference when I come in from outside, which didn't happen in our old house. It felt the same inside and out. How sad is that? The boys have adjusted beautifully. For the first two weeks, Silas would repeat at least 10 times a day, "I love my new house." We don't feel like we're living in a monstrous cavern with our furniture just randomly placed anymore. Things feel like they actually have a "place" in this house. It feels so right. It's home. Yes. We're home.

Pictures will come eventually. It's not actually that fancy or anything. It's just a boring little cozy house. But I think the camera is still packed. So yeah, it could be awhile.

I'm so glad you are in and getting settled. And yes, I have to agree...large houses are over rated! Our house is bigger than we need, and I love the "space"...but I dread ever having to pack up and move!
