New Plymouth is a city about an hour and a half west of here, on the west coast. The trip wasn't entirely for fun. We had to head out that way to pick up a dehumidifier I had bought off a NZ auction site called TradeMe. So, we decided to make a day of it. Lucky us, it poured rain all day. We did catch about half an hour of no rain to head into the Brooklands Zoo in New Plymouth, which was FREE and in a most gorgeous park. It's not a typical zoo. For those of you who have been to the Beacon Hill Children's Farm in Victoria, this was like a prettier, more glorified version of that. Made me wish we lived a little closer. Here are some pics from our day.
Ethan, really not wanting his picture taken in the car. Ach, he was giggling behind those arms.

What happened to my child who used to know how to smile? I laugh out loud every time I see this picture.

Rain-soaked llamas, having lunch. They were so cute eating their carrot slices.

Ah, see, he CAN smile normally.

Smiley guy.

Monkeys!
