Musical kid?

So, of course, every parent thinks their children are SO talented and naturally gifted, so I'm probably guilty of that, but I really do think Ethan has some musical talent. Unrelated to natural gifting, he is in LOVE with his Kindermusik class. It is SO much fun, and we have a great teacher. He participates in a way I have seldom seen in other "class" settings. Music obviously energizes him.

On the musical gifting side of things, I've noticed lately his innate sense of tuning. I have music playing in our house almost all the time, sometimes kids' music, sometimes not, but no matter what is playing, he is humming. And if nothing is playing, but I am singing or humming, he's humming. And if he doesn't know the song, he STILL hums, and he finds the notes and can match them perfectly. One day, he was humming and the song got quite high and he couldn't hum that high, and much to my surprise, he kept the same note, but went down an octave. I really was stunned because I didn't know kids his age could do that.

I mean, it's not completely surprising he can sing on key. Both Colin and I are fairly decent singers, but I guess because I've never seen the natural progression of musical-ness evolve in a child, it just amazes and astounds me when I see, or rather, hear my child doing something that is so cool.

As a passionate lover of music, I am just so thrilled to see that same love in my child.
