28 weeks

28 weeks? How did I get to be 28 weeks pregnant already?? This pregnancy is flying, let me tell you. I've hit the third trimester and the exhaustion has set in. I remember going on maternity leave around this time with Ethan. Ha. No such thing this time.

I had an appointment with my midwife, Colleen, today. Everything is still boring, boring, boring. I'm so thankful for that. We discussed how I feel less prepared mentally for this birth than I felt the first time. I think it's partly because I don't have as much time to think about it now, but also because I had all sorts of "plans" the first time, as far as different positions to try, relaxation techniques, and whatnot, but when it came right down to it, the back labour I had overruled any of my plans. Heh. Funny how that works. So I guess I'm finding it hard to plan anything this time. We WILL have some things prepared, as we are planning this to be a waterbirth, but other than that, I guess we will be playing it more by ear. Colleen seemed to think that was a healthy attitude to go into birth with. She's so reassuring and calming.

We did all the routine "stuff" (blood pressure, urine) and like I said, it was all good. She palpated my belly for quite a while to get a feel for where baby is positioned. I'm amazed how talented midwives are at knowing what they are feelng. "Oh, that's definitely a foot", "This is the back". When she pressed on the foot, baby kicked her. And when she was listening for the heartbeat with the fetoscope, it kept kicking (or punching) where the scope was sitting. It was funny. I heard the heartbeat again, but it was very faint for me. For some reason, I don't get the thrill of the heartbeat the way other moms do. I know it's beating. Feeling the movements is much more thrilling for me.

I am going to go get blood drawn to test my iron, just to make sure my tiredness is normal, and not a lack of something. I actually asked for this test. I HATE needles, so I found that ironic that I'm asking to go get one. Heh. But I guess I figure if it's just normal pregnancy tiredness, I'd rather know, and if it is iron, I can take a supplement. This is actually the only blood test I had done in my first pregnancy and so I feel it's a useful one to get done.

That's about it. I still can't believe we only have 12 weeks left!!

I didn't realize you could still do waterbirths in Canada. That is awesome. I have always wanted a water birth. I must ask my mid-wife this month if they will do that. What fun you will have! Not long now.
