A Father's Day Poem

What can be written
When this day has been marred
When celebrations are cause
For disappointment regret hurt and hate
One loves with a heart overflowing
One tears a heart in half not knowing which part to favour
One rages and blusters knowing too much
Eyes open at last but it brings new pain

When your flesh and blood cry out
When they need
When they want
When they falter
When they soar
Where are you
Do you know

Pleasure trumps flesh and blood
Innocents gobble up the crumbs
From your feasting
Thinking they are treasures
Because you make them believe it

One believes and her love causes you
To think you are the sun
One wants to believe
But the chasm is growing
Torn by what his heart knows is true
And what he desires to be true
One is lost to you
Though you don't even know it
Because you don't know him

You don't know them
Because you are first
You are your sun
You are your goal
You are all that matters
In the world of you

I will make them strong
I will grow them
I will sway their hearts to love
When you deserve their hate
I will be there
I will be here
I will be all
You are not
