Imagine...
Imagine if, instead of going to church, we were the church.
Imagine if, instead of spending our money to pay mortgages and maintenance on large buildings that get used only a few hours a week, we spent that money on the poor, and homeless, and the sick, and those ravaged by war.
Imagine how much money that would be to feed hungry people.
Imagine a group of people who love Jesus, encouraging each other, not just for an hour or two once a week, but with phone calls and texts and being there with "skin on" for the rest of the week.
Imagine the church in your home, in your coffee shop, in your parks, in the streets you walk and drive every day.
Imagine a person who cannot do maintenance around their home not ever worrying about it because others in their community will step up.
Imagine men and women stepping in and filling roles in children's lives because those children are missing a mother or a father or a grandparent.
Imagine a group of people laughing around a dinner table, sharing their food, sharing their stories.
Imagine a group of people crying together, because sometimes, life is just really, really hard.
Imagine a group of people praying for each other; for that new job, for the job loss, for the loss of a child, for the birth of a baby, for the loss of parents, for the joy of a new relationship or marriage, for the cancer diagnosis, for the mother going through chemo, for the father who has dementia...
Imagine that not one person has "wisdom" for the masses, but each person contributes equally. Each person has their own wisdom to share and for others to learn from.
Imagine a group of people who reach out to other faiths in their community and invite them to share a meal.
Imagine learning about that other faith, seeing another's perspective, allowing them to tell you how they see YOUR faith.
Imagine believers who allow LGBTQ+ to fully express their faith and their God-given gifts and talents in the community, all while being loved for being exactly who they are.
Imagine no one ever feeling like they are walking through life alone.
Imagine no one ever feeling "left out" on a Sunday morning (or any other day).
Imagine the freedom to ask questions and doubt and have radically different theology from another believer and it's OKAY.
Imagine how the church, the body of believers, could have the freedom to change each others' lives and the lives of those around them if it didn't have to deal with the physical and logistical aspects of a church building and the political structure it is made up of.
Imagine if, instead of going to church, we were the church.
Imagine...
