When you take children shopping

They become the voice in your head.  I was in Value Village today with my two youngest, shopping for the ever-elusive dress I want to wear to my parents' 50th anniversary celebration at the end of June.  Shopping for this dress has been a lesson in frustration as my body is NOT the shape or weight I wish it were and I don't feel anything looks decent on me, especially summer clothes and especially cute dresses.

I don't normally shop with the children, as this adds to my anxiety, but they were there and there wasn't much I could do.  I found about 7 or 8 dresses to try on.  The children were in the change room with me.  I tried on the first couple.  Rory exclaimed how pretty each one was.  They were.  On the hanger.  And in theory, on the right body.  Silas soon realized I was quickly rejecting them as soon as they were on.  With each dress I put on, he said, "You're probably not going to like this one, either."

Finally, I got to the last dress.  He nailed the final nail in the coffin by saying, "This is your last chance!"

I couldn't help but laugh.  I did not leave with a dress.  And I will leave the children home next time.
