Look at that boy. So much of who he is, is written all over that face. Tomorrow, my firstborn turns 8. At this very moment, 8 years ago, I was in labour, in the most pain I'd ever been in in my life, and having no idea what life would be like with this boy in it. Life changed forever 8 years ago. I would never do anything again in my life without considering my child/children.
Ethan. My sensitive one. My boy who feels so deeply. My boy who tries desperately to please me and is sorely disappointed when he thinks he hasn't. A boy who needs permission to feel his own feelings sometimes. He bears the burdens of the people he loves. I pray and try and teach him to let Jesus carry his load. I pray his heart is light and full of joy.
Ethan, today, you came home. You spent almost a week away and I've never been apart from you for that long. I longed and ached for you this week, while at the same time, hoped and prayed you were having a blast. I think you did. But today, you were home again. Today, you were home, where you belong. Where your heart is. Today, I smothered you with hugs and kisses. I couldn't stop myself. And tonight, I kissed you, and hugged you and said, "Goodnight, 7 year old." For the last time, I will call you that. Tomorrow, you are 8. Tomorrow, you celebrate with your dad, with grandparents, auntie, cousins, friends, your mum, brother, and sister. Have a great day, beautiful kidlet of mine! Laugh and be light-hearted. May Jesus, who loves you, and whom you love, fill your heart and mind with joy and no worries. Enjoy! And know that you are a treasure. An indescribable treasure.
