New Post for "Vancouver"

Oy!  Blogger hates me tonight.  I will have to separate these posts.

The following morning (early!), the kids and I packed up the car and took off for a week-long holiday in Vancouver. I hadn't really gotten a chance to see my sister, Adrienne, when we landed in Vancouver in April and I missed getting to sit and chat with her. Plus, I needed a change of scenery. It was a rough summer, emotionally, and it was as though I needed something to renew my brain. And I miss the ocean. Yes, this prairie girl admits, she may have been converted to a coastal girl over the past 7 years of island living. *gasp*

Our first day, we were travelling to Sicamous, BC. Without kids, 7 hours. With kids, I estimated 9. It took us 11. Whew. I was worn out. We stayed in a lovely little hotel, privately owned and run by a couple. I find these types of accomodations so much more personal and friendly than the "chain" type ones. And the continental breakfast in the morning was to die for!

The next day, we drove to Surrey, where my sister lives. What a relief to finally be there. But like I told many friends before we left, being the only adult in the car with 3 kids for two full days is NOTHING compared with a 19 hour plane/airport journey. Man, I can do ANYthing! I am a superhero when it comes to travelling with small children. ;)

Oh, and it was a good thing I remembered before we got there that my sister has a dog. Essie. My boys are terrified of dogs. Essie is a playful little terrier. Ethan wasn't too bad. His maturity is helping him deal with dogs better than when he was younger. Silas got used to Essie after a bit and became very assertive as he could be heard frequently saying, firmly, "Essie, back. Essie, back!!" All week. Rory LOVED Essie. Couldn't stop touching her, grabbing her, hitting her. Essie was very patient and if anything, a little scared of Rory!

Joining a family with teenagers, who were all in school, we didn't get a lot of family "hanging out" time. Rory did endear herself to her cousin, Chloe, and the two of them were best buds all week. Adrienne was super busy with a catering job she was doing, so we mainly entertained ourselves. Which I'm very good at.

The first day, we hit Whiterock. Just a quiet morning at the beach and lunch at a quaint cafe along the water. Plus, the boys had to see the "white rock". Exciting stuff!

(To be continued - with pictures - when I'm not as exhausted.  Blogger is messing with me tonight and I think sleep is in order).
