On an online moms forum I'm on, someone started a discussion, asking what are 3 good things about our day today. Another mom said she does that with her kids every night and how it's such a great way to end the day.
Ethan and I are in desperate need of some positive relationship building and genuine connecting these days, so we did this at bedtime tonight. Ethan's 3 things were:
1. Playing Candyland with Daddy.
2. Wearing his new pajamas.
3. Reading with Daddy.
And then he added a fourth: 4. Reading the "terrible" book with me. Haha! He meant "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day".
My 3 things are:
1. The sun shone, for the most part.
2. I had a chiropractic adjustment and feel good.
3. I got some new books yesterday with a gift certificate from Christmas and am enjoying reading some fiction for a change.
Oh, and I can add a fourth, too. 4. My husband made me a yummy chai tea latte.
It WAS a great way to end the day with my son. I think we'll make it a habit.
So, what are your 3 (or more) good things from today? Tell me in the comments section.

My three things are:
1. My groceries were delivered
2. I only had to lie with Esther for 10 min tonight (better than the 2 hours last night)
3. We had sunshine finally!
This is a great idea! I am going to try it with Emma-Jane too. Thanks.
What a great idea! I think I will try and do the same with Carter every night. I have had a lousy cranky kid night so I can think of 3 bad things real quick! lol Here it goes:
1) Kids both asleep by 8:30 pm - nice for Mommy!
2) Carter was so sweet this morning and cuddly when he woke up
3) Carter and Elizabeth snuggled a bit tonight in Carter's bed while he "read" to her.
Okay, now I feel better about the night - thank you!
Hi, Krista!
I can relate to the need for positive interactions with a new older sibling. No matter how much we all wanted Laura, Emily was very difficult to live with for months after her birth.
My sister recently recommended a book with a title something like "Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go to Sleep." We found it at our library. It's about a little sister having trouble going to sleep and asking her brother for the above mentioned help relaxing. The only concern I recall was that in one part the little one talks about being afraid of the dark/afraid to go to sleep or something (although this may be an excuse). Anyway, I censored that part when I read it to Laura--that kid doesn't need any more reasons not to go to sleep! But the overall message is right along the same lines of your post--you and Ethan would probably enjoy it. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll double-check the title and look up the author for you.

My three good things are:
1) I felt true happiness tonight when I was reading "Clifford's Puppy Days" to Thomas and Lucy in a voice that I borrowed from Bruce from Finding Nemo.
2) My petunias survived this past week's freezing temps and are already starting to perk up!
3) Lucy went straight to sleep tonight instead of taking off all of her clothes plus diaper and yelling for me for an hour...yay!
I think I will start keeping a list of my 3 good things every day:) I would love to do this with Thomas, but I don't know if he would get it or not...I'm going to try, though!
