I started planning the party a couple weeks ago, though the plan was actually in my head for about a year and a half. Thank goodness we have friends here, now. LOL It was all people we have gotten to know in our church. One of them *almost* ruined the surprise and Colin was suspecting for awhile and even asked me point blank if I was planning a surprise party for him. Well, I bluffed better than I thought, because I was convinced the whole thing was ruined, but he forgot. He really forgot!! I was hoping the first two weeks of school would be distraction enough, and apparently, it was!
Yesterday afternoon, Ethan and I went to the store to pick up the cake I had ordered and other party supplies. Well, of course, Ethan saw the cake and in spite of me trying to convince him not to talk about it, that it was a surprise, Ethan announced, when Colin got home from work, "We can't talk about your cake," with my hand smothering his mouth towards the end of the sentence. Ack, crazy kid! It wasn't a huge deal that Colin knew he had a cake waiting. At least I'm smart enough to have not told Ethan about the party itself.
The 3 of us then went for dinner. In the meantime, our friends were letting themselves into our unlocked house and decorating with the balloons and streamers I left for them. We got home and Colin was the first one in the house. First he noticed the decorations, but everyone was still hiding and he was thinking to himself, "I don't THINK Krista had enough time to do this before we left". Then everyone started piling out of our kitchen and sang "Happy Birthday". He was TOTALLY surprised. He really hadn't suspected a thing. Hooray! It was a LOT of fun.
I wish I'd gotten some pictures of Colin's face when he walked in, but this was the only one I ended up with.
