Under the pillow it went, and lo and behold, the Tooth Fairy brought $2 in its place. Ethan is only just learning the value of money, so he would have been equally thrilled with $.20, but the Tooth Fairy was feeling generous.
Here's our toothless boy. The one next to it, in the middle, is loose too. Ethan's looking a little rough around the edges in this shot, what with the chapped face and all, but he's pretty proud of his new grin.

Somewhat related to the tooth (or at least the aquisition of money due to the lost tooth), is this. This is the first receipt Ethan has ever received for his very first purchase.

Months and months ago, while grocery shopping with Colin, Ethan saw a toy boat with rubber toys in it (a bath toy) hanging in one of the aisles and insisted that he wanted it. So, we decided he'd have to buy it himself and we could start instilling the value of saving money. We started paying him for some chores around the house, extra things that he wouldn't normally do (putting away dishes, weeding, watering plants, etc.). It was slow-going because we don't pay much. ;) And every week Ethan went shopping, he would gaze longingly at the boat.
So, last week, after the Tooth Fairy's visit, we decided to count the money Ethan had saved so far. And lucky for him, that $2 put him over the top. He finally had enough for his boat. He put his money in his wallet (the cherished wallet from Christmas), stuffed it in his pocket and proudly went off to the store this morning.
He came in when they got back (Colin and the boys go shopping on their own Saturday mornings) and yelled, "Mommy, look what I got!!!" I expected him to proudly hold up his boat. No. He was beside himself to show me his receipt. Colin said he was almost more proud of that receipt than the boat itself. He has asked to hang it up on his wall. Apparently, the clerk at the grocery store was very good, helping Ethan count out his money, too. I'm so proud of my boy. I'm sure bathtime tonight will be very exciting.
