Happy New Year!

A new year, a new blog background, a new start!

Okay, so I don't really do resolutions because who ever actually keeps theirs? Well, maybe some people do. But I know I won't. There are some gradual changes I'd like to make. On a personal level. Maybe too personal to share here. For now. Maybe I'll share when I feel I've made some progress.

Since most of you, my readers, have not entered 2009 yet, tell me what your New Year's plans are!

Ours was quiet. Not Colin's. He had to work at the restaurant and tend bar half the night at the busiest bar in the city with irate customers who got in his face when the 3 bartenders weren't able to serve 100 people crowded around the bar all in the same instant. Good times!

Ethan stayed up late (until 9:15! He was really lagging by then.) watching Shrek 2. I then curled up with a bowl of ice cream and homemade Anzac cookies (courtesy of the hubby), and watched Runaway Bride. Then, my dear sweet Silas, woke around 11:30. We snuggled for awhile on the couch and then I took him to bed. At midnight, I heard firecrackers outside and I whispered "Happy New Year" in my baby's ear and kissed his head. It was lovely and sweet and a perfectly wonderful way to welcome the New Year.

Colin called at midnight also, to tell me Happy New Year. This was our first New Year's in 10 years that we haven't been together at midnight.

I thought we'd all drift off into blissful sleep, but Silas had other plans and decided to just BE awake for another 3 hours. Ack! I grew so tired and a little frustrated. I finally left him because I was growing too antsy waiting for him to sleep. I *cannot* sleep with an awake child beside me. Never have been able to.

So Silas cried and cried (because he doesn't like to fall asleep alone). Luckily, Colin came home just after 2:30 (I think) and he took over (only about 10 minutes after I'd left the room). And the little stinker (Silas, not Colin) went straight to sleep curled up against his Daddy. *sigh*

Of course, both boys were up with the sun (5:30!). Needless to say, I am dragging today. BUT, New Zealand makes up for the "dragging" that most people feel on New Year's Day, by having another holiday tomorrow. Know what it is? It's so innovative. It's the "Day After New Year's Day"!

Hooray!
