It's been a busy start to our summer so far. Last Sunday, we drove over to Vancouver. At 3am Monday, I drove Colin to the airport, where he flew to Florida (poor guy) for a conference. They are changing the IB curriculum at his school and he needed to learn the new stuff. Rough place to have to spend 4.5 days, eh?
The boys and I stayed with my sister, Adrienne, and her family for the week. Ethan absolutely drank up all the one on one attention from his aunt and cousins. He's really been needing that. I know I haven't been able to give him everything he needs in that department over these last 6 months. We joined my nephew, Kaelen, and his friends at the beach on Tuesday, where they were celebrating his 15th birthday. I can hardly believe my oldest nephew is already 15.
On Wednesday, I visited my second year roommate from Bible College. We've kept in touch over the years, but hardly get to see each other. She has 3 kids and it was fun for Ethan to play with them. On Thursday, it was another Bible College reunion, with several of my first year roommates. The four of us were almost inseperable that year and we all just sat back and visited like no time had passed (the last time we ALL were together was in 1997). And it was even more nostalgic with seven of our eight little ones there, all 4 and under, playing together and having fun (the 8th one was at school).
Friday, we went to the zoo with Adrienne and her two youngest, Avery and Chloe. It was fun. We took a little bus tour through a more "in the wild" section and Ethan grilled the bus driver/tour guide with questions about everything, warned her not to drive in a small bog we passed, and responded to everything she said with, "Is that right?", "Really?", "Is that good?", "Why?" He had the whole bus cracking up. Hey, it's good to be inquisitive. It's times like that that really reinforce our decision to homeschool. I LOVE how the whole world is Ethan's classroom.
Friday night, I picked up Colin and Saturday, we hit IKEA. We are redesigning Ethan's room to be the "Boys' room" and we just needed some things to make the space more useable. The last two days, we've spent decluttering some of his stuff and getting things organized. We set the crib up today for Silas (he has MORE than outgrown his Moses basket) and tonight, my boys are sleeping in THEIR room. So sweet. Of course, they'll both end up in ours at some point. Haha! Oh well, it's all good.
Colin has this week off and then begins his "summer job", teaching an ESL program at his school. This will just be for most of July. He has quit working at Ricky's restaurant and will likely find another cooking job sometime in August. Ricky's was just wearing him out. It wasn't the best work environment, plus it was so far from our house. And from his school, where he was having to leave from two days a week. Hopefully he'll find something closer to home and a kitchen that is "easier" to work in.
Here are some pictures of our last little while.

"What in the world are these?"
"Oooo, lego..."
"Look, I can reach!"
"These are way better than MY toys."

Awe, look at Silas, he's so adorable!
Asher's room is from IKEA.
Hope your week is good!
I used to teach IB English! Colin teaches drama, right? And as to his trip to Florida, I went to New Mexico for my training (back in 1994). I think he got the better deal!
I had to laugh at your last picture and comment that you wrote because I think Elizabeth thinks the same exact thing! She bypasses her own toys for Carter's each and every time.
Sounds like you had a great trip! Would love to see their room when it is done.
