He's on the move

Apparently, I have "go-getters" for children. Ethan was an early mover. At 5 months, Ethan was doing the "army crawl". You know, where he's flat on his tummy, but pulling himself forward with his arms. He just had places to go and things to get into.

Silas is quickly following in his brother's footsteps. His style is just a bit different. First, it was rolling. He'd roll all over the living room and if I left the room, I'd come back to find him in a completely different spot. (Mental note: start baby-proofing NOW). Then, he started pushing himself backwards. This is mildly annoying for him, as he is trying to get TO something, but keeps getting further and further from it. Then he cries. Poor guy.

Now, just in the last week, he has started getting up on all fours. I mean, really, all fours, like a push-up. My yoga instructor laughed, saying it was "plank pose". Yup, he's doing yoga already. Sometimes he gets his bum so high in the air that he even tips over onto his side. A few days ago, he brought his knees into it and now he's rocking back and forth on his hands and knees. And his forward motion is starting. But, he hasn't figured out that he needs to move his hands. What he does is push forward with his feet or legs, but doesn't move his arms, so then he lets go and does a face-plant. And he hits the floor pretty hard. He did this at my yoga class and slammed his wee face into the hardwood floor. Ouch! Here at home, he's only hit his blanket, but we have only hardwood floors, too, so I'm imagining we'll have a few more harsh faceplants before he figures out that his hands need to be factored into the equation.

I'm just in awe, watching him. I just HAD him, and now he's moving around my living room, acting like he's so big. Hehe. He was VERY proud of himself last night as he went forward and actually got a toy he was eyeing. Even at not quite 5 months, he looked at me when he did it and I could SEE a sense of accomplishment in him. He was so proud of himself. It's so cool. These kinds of joys of parenting are so worth the sleepless nights and random catnaps throughout the day. I guess he's just too busy moving to sleep. ;)
